PROFESA's South Florida Chapter Selects New Executive Board

In a crucial meeting held at Carlos Albizu University, the Puerto Rican Professional Association Board of Directors selected its executive board. This board, is composed of the Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, will guide the reins of the largest Puerto Rican professional organization in Florida for the next 2 years.

PROFESA is very proud to announce the 2007-2009 Executive Board of Directors:

Chair- Ms. Sandra Rosa
1st Vice-Chair- Ms. Daphne Santa
2nd Vice-Chair- Mr. Wilfredo Seda
Treasurer- Ms. Ivette Vallejo
Secretary- Ms. Wanda Maysonet

Despite a loaded agenda, two other Board of Directors were confirmed to board seats: Mr. Jorge Lopez and Mr. Jose Fernandez. Also remaning on the Board of Directors is Mr. Jose Iglesias, CPA, Ms. Evelyn Martinez, our departing secretary and Past Chairs and founders Mr. Hector Diaz and Dr. Edwin Cordero.

After the nomination and selection process was completed, Ms. Rosa stated " I am honored to have been selected for this most important position. Thank you for your confidence in me." Ms. Rosa has distinguished herself for her leadership and organizational skills and the Board of Directors is very pleased with her selection.

PROFESA congratulates all these distinguished professionals who continue to volunteer their skills and time, working on behalf of the Puerto Rican professionals and the Puerto Rican community.

PROFESA Fulfills Scholarship Commitment to Nacoprw

As it is our custom, almost since our inception and as a means to empower our fellow Puerto Rican community organizations, PROFESA fulfilled its commitment to Nacoprw by making a $1000 donation to the Mercedes Balseiro Scholarship Fund.

PROFESA, a grassroot organization, operating in Florida since 1999, is a not-for-profit, professional organization that generates all its funds from donations made at its year round events. Our mission, which includes upholding our cultural roots, empowering our compatriots and our institutions, and connecting the members and the community through networking, also includes charity. PROFESA has donated well over $50,000 in cash, goods and services in the last 6 years. All this without grants or govenrment assistance! We want to thank you, our members, sponsors and friends for making this possible.

PROFESA's upcoming activity

The Board of Directors and its activities committee is diligently planning a Speaker's Series for the end of September. This event will be presented as a short seminar and demonstration about Protecting Organizations Against Hackers and Internal Intruders. Nowadays, as we conduct so much of our personal and corporate business from our computers, we believe this is a subject important to all. This activity very likely will be held as an evening, midweek event.

Coming up in the near future, is our Annual Membership Meeting as well. At this event, the Executive Board gives their organization state of affairs report to the members present. We will keep you informed. This activity is generating a great deal of interest among our business members and contacs. Once we announce the activity, please RSVP as soon as possible since capacity will be limited.

PROFESA chapters to hold summit

Both PROFESA of Central Florida and PROFESA of South Florida will be holding a summit at the end of September. The objective of this meeting will be to delineate future strategies to enhance the growth of our organizations and exchange ideas to improve both chapters through cooperation and coordination of future events.

Data reported to the Board of Directors demonstrated that the new version of PROFESA.org has surpassed all our expectations. According to the data presented by Mr. Jorge Lopez, our site administrator, we are not only getting visitors from many states in the USA, but also from many countries all over the world and of course, Puerto Rico.

PROFESA'S DISTINGHISHED PUERTO RICAN PROFESSIONAL

Since its founding in 1996, PROFESA has garnered a membership body that is comprised of Puerto Rican professionals who are talented and accomplished in their community and professional endeavors. The PROFESA board of directors has decided to highlight the achievements of some of these individuals by creating a feature section on our website called, "PROFESA'S DISTINGHISHED PUERTO RICAN PORFESSIONAL". The selected individual will be featured in our web site www.profesa.org, in a section by the same name for a whole quarter.

We would like this new feature to be a collaborative effort among all PROFESA members. Therefore, we are requesting from our membership the submission of a summary on a PROFESA member whose outstanding achievements are worthy of being included on our website.

PROFESA 7th Annual Charity Golf Tournament A Major Success!

Miami- PROFESA's 7th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, held at Doral Golf Resort & Spa on June 23, 2007 was attended by more than 72 players and a large number of sponsors. The participants complimented the immaculate golf course condition, the amazing post golf award ceremony at the luxurious club house, and the excellent food and drinks.

Our organization wants to express our appreciation to all the participants and sponsors, and a huge thank you to the organizing committee lead by Wanda Maysonet and supported by the rest of the board of directors and volunteers.

Remember, the majority of the proceeds raised during this activity will be dedicated to PROFESA's Scholarship Fund, a fund that awards scholarships to Puerto Rican students at Carlos Albizu University, and other Puerto Rican based charitable organizations and individuals in South Florida.

We hope to continue to make this event a tradition in South Florida for many years to come, for the benefit of the community and as a way to bring positive recognition to all Puerto Ricans, thereby, fulfilling our mission of networking, empowering and keeping our culture alive.

"The Borinqueneers" A Documentary on the 65th Infantry Regimen

The following is an e-mail regarding the PBS documentary on the 65th Infantry Regiment, (a.k.a. "The Borinqueneers"), an all-volunteer, Puerto Rican infantry regiment that bravely served in World Wars I, II and the Korean conflict.

The 65th fought in many battles, including the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. The valor displayed by the 65th in this and many other battles won acclaim by many, including General Douglas MacArthur, who once said of them: "The Puerto Ricans forming the ranks of the gallant 65th Infantry on the battlefields of Korea ...are writing a brilliant record of achievement in battle and I am proud indeed to have them in this command. I wish that we might have many more like them."

PROFESA.org under construction

We are actively laboring in our new and improved PROFESA.org. The new version of our web site will not only be dynamic, informative and Entertaining but also will allow our visitors to give their opinion and to interact with other members of our organization.

Among the new features under developments will be a Forum section with multiple forums such as Job seekers/Job Opportunities, Puerto Rican Professionals anecdotes and experiences and Life of Puerto Ricans in the US and Puerto Rico. A Commentary Blog will be publish, as well as, a comprehensive calendar of events and a gallery including our awaited as Distinguished Puerto Rican Professional of the Quarter and the Puerto Rican Professional Virtual Hall of Fame.
